Introductory Phonetics English Speech and Usage
Eyovi Njwe Nee Amah
A study of the sounds which human beings employ for communication could be challenging because of the technical and scientific nature of such a study. This is especially true as such sounds are principally auditory units visualized through the aid of phonetic symbols. In this book, we attempt a simplification of the phenomenon through description and explanation with sufficient and appropriate examples to permit students grasp the concepts with relative ease. There is also a simplified description of English segmental and prosodic features with ample examples and drills. The intention is to demystify this aspect of English language study which over the years constitute an up hill task to non-native users of English. On English usage, different composition types including letters, memos, speeches, reports, minutes of meetings, long essays and dissertations plus punctuation mechanics have been treated to facilitate writing.
