Development of a Digital and Battery-free Smart Flowmeter
Ronald Garcia
Objectives -Eliminate batteries in flow metering systems -proof that the kinetic energy of the flow is sufficient to power the electronic module of a commercial flowmeter including a wireless transceiver. -Proof that kinetic energy of the flow can be extracted without causing significant resistance to the flow. Conclusion -For air flowing in a 11mm diameter pipe, 18 seconds of energy harvesting at 10 revolution-per-second turbine speed, generated enough power for the flowmeter to operate for 720 seconds at 20 RPS, without backup power -Wireless data transmission was successfully achieved - Flowmeter and generator unit integrated in the same system.
