Opioids Availability and Consumption in Rwanda: a Proxy Indicator of Palliative Care Progress John Nyiligira

Opioids analgesics are the mainstay in the patient pain management, especially in palliative care worldwide. There is nowadays an increasing number of cancer patients especially related to the HIV/AIDS and other different types of cancer. This is a qualitative retrospective chart review study on opioids analgesics that was conducted to determine the available opioids analgesics and their consumption trends in Rwanda for the period of five years from 2008 to 2012. It shows the Rwanda's profile in the use of opioids in patients' pain management. The findings are very quite interesting and promising the best future of Rwanda's palliative care program.
