There are limited solutions to the rising problems in our technological and medical world. For example, the present technology imposes a limit on the development of faster and more powerful computers, whilst in our medical world there is a growing need for newer, less toxic and more effective anticancer treatments and MRI contrast agents. A new class of ligands ? monosubstituted squarate ligands ? was synthesised and their complexes assessed with a view to alleviating some of these problems.
