Floodplains, Soils and Land Use: an Ecologically Based Land Evaluation
Peter Elias
Floodplains are a very fragile ecosystem that require an ecologically based assessment in view of the unpredictable nature of environmental changes for the selection of appropriate land uses and effective management practices. This book demonstrates the sensitivity of pedogenetic- geomorphic factors and processes to changing lithology, landscape positions and land uses in different ecological zones within the floodplain. It emphasizes the implications for intra-profile and inter-profile variability of soil properties of floodplains which could determine different crop regimes and management practices for sustainable agricultural production and food security.
