Application of High-level Languages for Water Network Modelling: Supporting an Advanced Computer Aided Water Network Engineering Environment
Peter Bounds
Software environments for aiding water network engineering have evolved towards increased functionality and integration. The aim of this book is to define the supporting framework of an Advanced Computer Aided Water Network Engineering (ACAWNE) environment that is common to all numerical applications. A unifying architecture defines a set of operations to manipulate a generic water network model. New network operations are defined to manipulate and analyse whole networks, such as network decomposition. Complex numerical operations, such as optimal network scheduling, are implemented by employing high-level modelling languages and a general solver interface. Modelling languages produce very short and compact code, and considerably reduce development time. This approach is integrated into a ACAWNE environment and applied in practice. Furthermore, a simulator, calibrator and scheduler are integrated in the same modelling language for predictive and feedback control of pressure management areas supplied by multiple pressure reducing valves. The content of this book provides new insight for hydraulic engineers and software engineers in both industry and academia.
