Alzheimer's disease is a primary degenerative disease of the central nervous system. The progression of Alzheimer's disease will ultimately lead to dementia, behavioral and cognitive impairments. Prevalence rates for more than 20 million people worldwide including 4.5 million Americans. Ficus hispida Linn. (Family - Moraceae) a tree of the mulberry family is widely distributed throughout was used for evaluation of neuro protective effect. Amnesia in mice is induced by Intra CerebroVentricular injection (I. C. V.) of A? peptide (25-35). In conclusion the neuro protective activity of the plant Ficus hispida Linn on alzheimer's type of dementia is due to the inhibiting activity against AChE, MAO, Glutamate, lipid peroxidation there by it elevates Dopamine, Serotonin, and free radical scavenging activity. Histopathological changes in the treatment group have shown the significant reduction in the hippocampal neuronal damage when compared to control group.
