Bulimia Nervosa: Overview, Cognitive-behavioral Case Conceptualization and Treatment Planning
Nicoletta Georgiou
During the last few decades, eating disorders have been rising in prevalence mainly due to environmental and cultural factors. This rise, which reaches public health significance, calls for literature to inform and educate people about risk factors, clinical picture and treatment options of these disorders. In the first section of this book, we present important facts related to Bulimia Nervosa, such as prevalence of the disorder, comorbitity, theoretical frameworks for understanding the development of the disorder as well as treatment options. To enhance the understanding of the development and treatment of Bulimia Nervosa, a case study is presented and analyzed in the second part of this book. The case analysis follows the cognitive-behavioral model of treatment, since cognitive behavioral therapy has been found to be among the most effective for treating eating disorders, and provides a complete case conceptualization and treatment plan. This book is addressed to both mental health professionals and the general public, as it provides a comprehensive overview of Bulimia Nervosa.
