Many surgical diseases can be treated only by extirpation of the organ or a part thereof; correction of pathophysiological process is not possible. Even here, consideration of pathological aspects of the disorder proves useful. One, it enables the surgeon to understand the mechanism of production of symptoms and signs of the disorder.
