There are few expert systems already developed for the textile sector but there are many untapped sectors of the textiles and one of them is spinning. As day by day the yarn quality requirements are becoming more stringent but they mainly depend upon the human beings who are expensive and are mortal as well, hence use of expert system is becoming more crucial. This expert system can diagnose spinning process faults and by removing respective causes of these faults it is possible to produce high quality yarn. It can also reduce the costs by enabling the lower paid people to do the same task which is performed by the higher paid. In the development of an expert system the knowledge base is the key part and in this case it is developed by using data of spinning process faults which was gathered by capturing the knowledge of domain experts. Expert systems are free of any limitations that are associated with the human experts. Also, this tool can significantly reduce the training and support costs and can increase employee and employer satisfaction.
