This books primarily analysis demographic status of women in Maharashtra State in India. The term 'Status' is an important one utilized to indicate women's position in the society. It is generally operationalised as a quantifiable variable, with the help of indicators like women's work participation rates, fertility rates, mortality rates, life expectancy, educational levels and so on to arrive at a consolidated picture. Within women's studies, the concept of 'status' has been used as a blanket term covering different dimensions like female material control, female political participation, female solidarity for economic and political interests, authority of power in domestic or public domain etc. In this book the term 'demographic status' is viewed as the totality of demographic attributes of female population like the analysis of female population density, sex ratio etc.'Demographic status index' has also been formulated using the selected demographic attributes.
