Agriculture occupies an important place in the economic life of Kerala, Republic of India as it provides the key to economic growth and fluctuations there in; overall economic growth of the state is greatly influenced by growth achieved in agricultural sector. In terms of per capita income and production, Kerala is lagging behind many of the Indian States. But in terms of Human Development Index and life standard of the people, Kerala is much ahead of the most other states in India and on par with some of the developed countries.
