The present book aimed at drawing together and discussing various theories of motivation and motivation in language learning and examining the motivation for learning English and Estonian languages of secondary school students of Narva. A number of various theories and definitions of motivation have been proposed throughout the years, some of the most notable ones being probably behaviorist, humanistic and cognitive theories of motivation. They have been also applied and researched in the field of language teaching and learning. The topmost idea of the book is that intrinsic motivation and integrativeness (based on internal desire) rather than extrinsic motivation (based on external stimuli) may play a more significant role in successful language learning, although internalized extrinsic motivation also has considerable importance in sustaining language learning process.
