People from different cultures all over the world have unique ways of expressing politeness and caring for the face (public self-image) of other interlocutors either verbally or non-verbally from possible face attacks during interpersonal communication. Nevertheless, the inevitability of verbal conflict in daily interpersonal engagements is a reality all humans must face every day. Politeness strategies play fundamental role in mitigating the face attacks. Based on interpersonal communication contexts, this book aims at deepening our understanding on how interlocutors choose and use politeness strategies during verbal conflicts resolution and how the choice of politeness strategies influence the choices verbal conflict resolution strategies. The book also discusses the influence of gender, in the choice of both the politeness strategies and verbal conflict resolution strategies during verbal conflict resolution.
