Prospects of Environmental Education in Zambia
Adrian Phiri
The field of Environmental Education (EE) or conservation have been in existence since time in memorial but environmental crises keep getting worse. Van Matre(1990)argued that EE had failed and is a mission which has gone astray. The failure has been attributed to EE being too concerned with the cognitive approach of creating environmental awareness than educating learners on ways of addressing root causes of environmental problems. The book provides an evaluation of the methodology of imparting environmental education in selected environmental management providers in Zambia, Southern Africa. These included; the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia (WECSZ), Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) and the Environmental Council of Zambia (ECZ). The prospects of EE in Zambia are bright. Institutions are doing a commendable job in raising environmental awareness among the public. Efforts were being made to engage the public and formal education sector by restructuring curricula and public awareness.
