Thermodynamic cycles are operating between a maximum pressure and minimum pressure in most of the cases. The work required for increasing the pressure from lower value to higher value is the key factor in determining the system efficiency. Phase change is experienced in the evaporator and condenser of a vapour compression cycle. Since the quality of the vapour is not significant at the beginning and end of the compression process of this cycle, isochoric heating process could be considered for achieving pressure increment in place of adiabatic compression process. The contents of this book explore the investigations on isochoric heating for pressure increment of phase change process and a new method of operating the vapor compression refrigeration system with the application of isochoric heating process for increasing the pressure of vapor refrigerant, without using the compressor. Theoretical energy efficiency calculations of implementing this method, with popular refrigerants, are also discussed in this book to recommend the isochoric heating process as a best alternative in selective applications of adiabatic compression processes.
