In the summer of 1980, six-year-old Martin Burke is on a family holiday in Whitby when he sees a boy who looks just like him. His parents brush this off and tell him he's silly. So, he forgets about it until 42 years later when his mother drops the bombshell that he was adopted as a baby.
Martin gradually realises that the boy he saw in Whitby all those years ago was actually his twin brother. Determined to discover who his twin and his birth parents are, he uncovers a web of deceit involving politicians, government scientists, and the Catholic Church.
The story of Martin's adoption eventually becomes clear. But nothing can prepare him for the truth about the people he is related to.
