My Grandma Talley is the story of the love between a young girl named Kincaid and her grandmother, Grandma Talley. Kincaid has to leave her beloved grandmother behind and move to California. She dreads making new friends and attending a new school. Grandma Talley shows her a trunk that has been stored at the back of her closet. Tucked inside the trunk are photos, a quilt as ancient as time itself, and other precious items. Memories passed down from generation to generation. Grandma Talley tells Kincaid that she must keep her own memories, not in a trunk, but carry them with her inside her heart.
