In 1945, an 18-year-old musician, Tomas O'Grady, unwittingly encounters a 16-year-old ballet dancer, Kathleen Walsh. Theirs is a captivating story. In a struggle to grapple with their personal tragedies, they seek solace in their challenging friendship. However, the consequences of their respective circumstances tear them apart and take them on different journeys, dramatically changing both their lives. After they inadvertently find each other again, the USA launches two atomic bombs on Japan in the early days of August 1945, thereby effectively ending World War II. Subsequent events leave Kathleen feeling abandoned, but she bravely takes a leap of faith.
