When Katerina Guerra left her long-term partner, she thought the relationship had disintegrated because they had grown apart over many years. She soon learned her ex was suffering from narcissistic personality disorder, characterised by an extreme sense of entitlement, lack of empathy, dishonest, manipulative behaviour and a very fragile sense of self. What Katerina had thought were the regular ups and downs of a relationship was in fact a toxic pattern of verbal and emotional abuse.
