This fictional novel is set in the southwest town of Remembrance. The story begins with a young high school student, Luke, who encounters his kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Shaw. The two strike up a new relationship. At this same time, two other students, Terry and Naci, while walking home from school, begin a conversation about life's beginning. Their conversation is interrupted by the sudden appearance of an older woman, Veronica, who presents them with the question, "What is our purpose for living?" Here, high school students begin a philosophical search for 'A Way of Life' or "A Purpose of Life.' At this point, Veronica leaves them but seems to disappear quickly. The interaction between Terry, Naci and Veronica continues. Little by little other students enter the picture and the after school meetings begin at a local park with a handful of students and Veronica. The park meetings expand to include more students and then adults. The meetings lead to seeking out people in need. Throughout the story are various developing relationships and family stories. Veronica continually appears and disappears. At one point she disappears completely but is replaced by Vincent, an older man, who carries on in the same manner as Veronica did. Who are these two? From where did they come? Where did they go?
