The Diaspora Assessment Team's work in this volume reflects what we have seen for over a decade: a diaspora community that longs for peace and joy to return to their homeland. This initial assessment covered much ground and asked very broad open-ended questions to begin this important inquiry and intervention process. Perennial themes emerge about the need for enhanced security, the need to address environmental challenges, insufficient infrastructure, and poverty. The future of South Sudan depends on addressing these challenges through comprehensive partnerships between the diverse communities in the region and the diaspora family.
