God ordered the Israelites to completely destroy the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites Why? "they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods and you will sin against the LORD your God."These same "Hittites", "Amorites", etc. have brought paganism into the church. How? The Church tried to keep up with the Jones's in an attempt to be culturally relevant. The Church in the world has become part of the world and the world has come into the church and there is no longer any distinction between the sacred and the secular. In the guise of being all things to all men in order to win some to Christ, the Church has totally assimilated the practices of the world. How the Philistines handled the ark of the covenant of God in carrying it on a new cart is discussed as a pagan influence in how King David tried to carry the ark in a cart leading to the death of Uzzah who tried to stop the ark from falling. With the pagan influence on the Church today, can we say Ichabod - the glory has departed?
