Holly, a single mother in her late twenties, runs a campsite and animal shelter near Benidorm in the south of Spain. During his stay on the campsite, a strange and yet affable character named Bottle, writes a novel about Holly, depicting her as living in a parallel reality in New York. Within Bottle's Book, Holly, her friends, her son Jake, and two stray dogs, are sent on a quest that lands them in the same village in Spain. However, a life-threatening twist of fate sees their souls trapped within the bodies of five fighting bulls that are due to be killed in only a few days' time at the Palm Sunday bullfights. Holly finds out about the novel when the first chapters are published online, but by this time Bottle has disappeared. To add to the mystery, the son of a local bull-farm owner and the local priest also go missing. As further chapters are published, it soon becomes clear that Holly's day-to-day life and that of the characters within the fantastical reality of Bottle's book, have begun to converge.
