The main action begins during a poker game in the elite Brook's Club in London. After a scandal during a card game, Francis Ashley, who won a large sum of money, was murdered. The quarrel took place in front of Charles Kaverdish. Since his youth investigating complex crimes has become Charles's hobby. And this time, Kaverdish remains true to himself. Detective investigates the killing and helps Scotland Yard find and arrest the criminals. Following the investigation into the assassination of Sir Francis Ashley two friends set off to Monte Carlo for a few days of fun, including a visit to the famous casino there. Fate brings together Lord Kaverdish and professional gambler Jules Bazin at the same roulette table. Charles, on adjusting his style to Bazin's game, joins forces with him, and together they win a large sum from the casino. Bazin is being secretly watched by operatives from another casino, however, and they do not plan to let him leave the casino with his winnings. As so often happens, the responsibility for investigating the crime falls upon the shoulders of Lord Kaverdish. In the story "Inheritance Not by Will," the mystery behind the walls of the "Harswood House" gives rise to an evil fate. A book of crime works featuring the protagonist Lord Caverdish. By the force of the circumstances, Lord Caverdish needed to investigate the mysterious murder on the estate of Sir Francis Balmer. It turned out that many employees of the estate had a motive for the murder of its owner. This is a cozy mysterious book.
