"Nonexistence, thus noted, is the origin to the universe. Existence, thus named, is the mother to all manifestations. Therefore, abide by the [Dào of] nonexistence in order to witness the transcendent wonders. Delve in the [Universe of] existence in order to uncover the disparate clues." Laozi-DàoDéJing This is an English translation of the ancient Chinese scripture DàoDéJing. The scripture is an encapsulation of the millennia year old insights, wisdoms, and philosophies of the Chinese civilization. DàoDéJing proclaimed that the Dào is the ultimate Truth and the true nature of things, whilst Dé is the qualitative manifestation of the Dào. Both the Dào and Dé are transcendental and perfect. Therefore DàoDéJing is literally "The Book of Transcendental Dào and Dé". This translation sought to unravel the cryptic and transcendental meanings of the scripture, which often sounds like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo. It is hope that the English speaking readers will find this translation a useful resource for getting an insight into the transcendental wisdoms of the author Laozi, who was regarded as the truly enlightened one throughout the Chinese history. It should also serve to provide a good glimpse into some of the Chinese philosophy, culture, customs and beliefs that, in many aspects, are firmly rooted in his teachings. A substantial list of quotable quotes by Laozi is given at the end of the book.
