For most of recorded history, the identified form of homosexuality has been male>male. Lesbian relationships have also been recorded during this time but have usually not drawn the same level of criticism. By and large, the open display of physical affection between women has been more socially acceptable than the same form of public display between men. This book is a story of "The Daughters of Bilitis," a small yet powerful organization of lesbian women, who were instrumental to the success of putting the "L" into LGBTQ. In doing so, these pioneers thus asserted their rightful position in the LGBTQ movement, and equally their fundamental rights as full-fledged members of our modern society.
