Delicate for Black Women
Takara Bard-Edwards
I wrote this book of poems for women of color such as myself . Who struggle with the pressure of the world. If you grew up with a strong mother or grandmother like me. I am sure you learned a lot that may have forced you to struggle with your own truth. Those women also taught you how to love, be strong and overcome adversity. In our culture, we are taught to take care of everyone else and neglect US. The truth that hides in our generations, the lies and sometimes the mistreatment we endure. I wanted to express, that it is okay to open up and be vulnerable(delicate). As black women we are taught to be strong when facing all hardships. Which can sometimes numb us to the point we lose ourselves. Some women will relate to these poems and some will not. If one woman can sit in her truth and change, I will be tremendously blessed. I am a girl for all girls! I am rooting for us, I am smiling for us, I am crying for us and I am healing for us. I thank you humbly for reading this thus far. When we face our realities, that is when the work begins. Heal from everything that is hidden, hurtful and begin to grow into the QUEEN you are destined to be. We deserve it! It is OUR time.
