This book is an introduction to help learn about Mother Nature and her nurturing qualities. Close attention to the Earth and the environment as well as the therapeutic development of the narrative in the writings are meant to help individuals who feel they have experienced some kind of loss, begin to depend on nature for care and strength. The book has also been written to teach about how we must treat the environment. It talks of how the original Native people care for the plants, the land and all the different kinds of animals as well as relied on them for life instruction. Lastly, the story talks of the kindness and love of a very special Cherokee woman who was able to share this natural knowledge with a young girl who in turn then learned about love from her mother, Mother Earth, and through the relationship with the Cherokee woman and her newly developed relationship with Nature grew to become a strong, gentle and loving young woman. This book was written to show that Mother Earth can give what our human mothers sometimes cannot give and has been used in the United States by psychologists to show how to help their clients who for one reason or another were unable to depend on their own mother for nurturing. It was also written to explain that taking care of our precious Earth is so very important and has been used on Earth Day in grammar schools through colleges internationally, to explain the importance of caring for the planet that we live on. The language that is used in this book has been written in such a way that people have referred to it as a type of poetry. It is said to make people ponder the subtle lessons about caring and compassion toward people and the environment. Although this book was written for children, it has been enjoyed by and helped adults as well. Native Americans have been referred to with deep respect for their teachings and as people we could learn from. Enjoy this simply written, yet deeply complex and thought provoking book.
