Animals is one of the most striking works in Pink Floyd's impressive catalog. Inspired by George Orwell's social satire Animal Farm, the band created a bleak and biting concept album where society's various power structures are depicted through dogs, pigs, and sheep. With monumental compositions like "Dogs", "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", and "Sheep", Pink Floyd showed a rawer, more aggressive, and political side of their music than on its predecessors The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here.

The album is also inextricably linked to its iconic cover, where an inflatable pig floats between the chimneys of Battersea Power Station in London – one of the most recognizable album covers in rock history.

What do I get with Animals 50?

The anniversary editions Animals 50 give fans the opportunity to dive even deeper into the creation of this masterpiece. Among the most exciting new features are early, previously unreleased versions of "Dogs" and "Sheep", which provide a rare insight into the development of the songs. In addition, there is the original 1977 radio edit of "Sheep", which has never been commercially available before, as well as a rare studio jam and the previously unheard Roger Waters track "Young Nicholas Jon".

The large deluxe box set also contains a previously unreleased live recording from the Oakland Coliseum Arena on May 9, 1977, where Pink Floyd performed during their legendary In the Flesh tour. The recording provides a unique insight into the band's live sound at a time when they were at the peak of their creative and commercial success.

The box also contains the original album, the acclaimed 2018 remix, and a Blu-ray disc with the album in both 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos. The box set is supplemented by a 64-page hardcover book with new texts, rare photographs, and the story behind the iconic artwork, as well as three posters and a stencil.
