Tranchini organically interweaves cymbals and drums to bring to life rhythmic cycles reminiscent of Tony Williams but utterly different from those of the great African-American artist because they are less chopped up, more full-bodied, and yet not bound by the stylistic stylings of the much-loved Elvin Jones either. In his drumming there is also something of the warm, enveloping melodic sense of Philly Joe Jone.
