Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Tom Petty's Estate presents the comprehensive new box set Origins 1971-1978 on the occasion of the band's 50th anniversary. The release delves into the archives and follows the musical evolution leading up to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers through the intense 70s. The collection features collaborations with legendary musicians like Al Kooper, Leon Russell, Jim Gordon, and Emory Gordy and moves through country, folk, punk, reggae, rock, and soul.
The Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers box set Origins 1971-1978 is presented here as a 5LP box set with Blu-ray and DVD. A central element of the vinyl edition is an 88-page fanzine with liner notes by David Fricke and Bud Scoppa, comments on each track from the original band members, complete album credits for the first two albums, as well as a wealth of previously unseen archival photos and memorabilia. In addition, there are polaroid pictures, postcards, collectibles, and much more.
At the heart of the collection is "No Sleep Til L.A.", which is more than just a compilation of rarities: The 12 tracks document how Tom Petty found his musical identity. The release follows the years from Mudcrutch's earliest recordings up to the formation of The Heartbreakers, as Petty searched for the right musicians, the right sound, and ultimately the right band.
